Turner Harpsichord
Our harpsichord is one of three German “Blum” harpsichords Turner made. It is based on a surviving harpsichord dated 1778 that Mathias Blum built in his workshop in Vienna. It is more in the tradition of the Viennese Classical style than previous German harpsichords, which typically followed Flemish traditions.
Turner built about 30 harpsichords in Vancouver in the 1970s and 80s. His instruments, some exhibited in the Canadian Museum of Civilization, are known for their quality of tone, attention to detail, and exquisite workmanship and detail.
Yukon Early Music is thrilled to have brought this German-style single-manual, transposable harpsichord built and illustrated by Canadian Edward Turner to the Yukon.
