Bachfest

Bach lived in Germany from 1685 to 1750. He was a prolific composer whose work has had an immense impact on Western music - rock bands and orchestras have all felt his influence. His works are full of intricate passages, reverence, deep passion and a surprising sense of humour. He wrote a significant amount of music for the church, but also wrote wonderful secular music as well. Exploring his music is exploring the quintessential music of the era.

There will be 8 performances between Friday, February 13 and Sunday, February 15 featuring our visiting and local artists.

The performances will feature the music of J.S. Bach, the composers who influenced him, and music that he influenced.

We are fortunate to have world-class Baroque music specialists joining us for Bachfest. These artists are highly skilled performers and music educators who will share their knowledge and expertise with our local audiences and artists.

They are joining us from Vienna, Nova Scotia, Quebec, and British Columbia.

On Saturday, February 14 there will be the chance to participate in masterclasses with the Visiting Artists.

Participating musicians will present a piece they have been working on and the Visiting Artists will work with them to deepen their technique, stylistic expression, and to have fun! The classes are open to other musicians and audience so we can all learn together.
